Niles Christensen worked for Wm S Haynes Co from 1900 to 1912. In 1913, he partnered with John Schwelm before venturing off in 1916 under the business name Christensen & Co.

Given Christensen’s affiliation with the Haynes Co., it’s no surprise that this flute has similar tonal qualities as Haynes. It’s very smooth and responsive. The middle and upper registers have a lovely glow. The low register is sweet and gentle. This flute is an excellent choice for chamber music in intimate settings.

This early example of a Christensen flute has two unique features. First is the lip plate that nearly wraps around the headjoint tube. The second is the aluminum crown.

The pads are new, and the flute is in excellent condition.
