Louis Lot 5902 (Headjoint)

Back to list of flutes.

  • Made in 1895
  • Silver-plated maillechort with silver embouchure
  • 0.014″ seamed tubing
  • Embouchure (silver): 10.5 mm x 12.5 mm
  • Sounding length: 140 mm

This headjoint was originally paired with the body that is listed as 6530. Sometime during the flute’s history, a previous owner shortened the headjoint by 10 mm and moved the ferrule closer to the logo. However, the current owner commissioned Gary to return the ferrule to its original position. He also preferred a headjoint with more modest alterations, so he paired the body with another Barat-era headjoint, 6530. The headjoint of 5902 is available separately and not included in the sale of 6530.

The embouchure cut is original and the largest we have seen on any Louis Lot headjoint. We tested the headjoint on a variety of flutes. With its large embouchure, the sound is large and complex. The seamed tubing provides vibrancy and responsiveness. You can also hear the tonal glow that is part of the Louis Lot charm. We recommend playing this headjoint on a silver or gold flute to compensate for the shortened tenon.
