Original Powell piccolos (those built while Powell himself was there) have always been very difficult to find. Few piccolos have ever matched the rich color and even response of an early Powell and owners are naturally reluctant to part with them. No. 1977 is no exception. This piccolo has been used but well cared for. The pads are fairly old but the wood is in excellent shape with no cracks or repairs and the embouchure is entirely original. Built in May of 1959, No. 1977 was played for a number of years by famed saxophonist and doubler, Gary Foster.
