Pads and corks appear to be new, and the silver finish is clean with no tarnish. This flute was likely overhauled, though it sat in its case for several years before we received it on consignment. The flute plays very well in its present condition.

The pitch is on the low end. With the head pulled out 1/8″ to 1/4″, the intonation seems consistent with a traditional scale at A=435 Hz. But, the intonation is most reliable and even with the head pushed all the way in and the tuner set at A=438 Hz. (The flute can be retuned to A=440 Hz using a completely reversible method. Contact Gary for details.)

The sound has the characteristic French glow – lots of color in the middle and upper registers, a nice solid core in the lower. If you are new to vintage French flutes, this is an excellent flute to start with. It’s not terribly fussy as some French flutes can be, and it has the kind of embouchure to help you develop a focused airstream required for a classic French sound.
