The pads and corks appear to be new with almost no wear. It is likely this flute had an overhaul before it sat in its case for several years. In its current condition, this flute plays beautifully.
The sound of this flute seems to be more complex than that of traditional Louis Lot flutes of the late 1800s and early 1900s. The sound is reminiscent of Bonneville flutes, slightly textured but with a French glow that balances out the sound.
The flute also plays well at both A=440 Hz and A=442 Hz with the head pulled out at 1/8″ – 1/4″. However, the headjoint measures 146 mm (center of the embouchure to end of tenon), 5 mm shorter than typical, which suggests the headjoint may have been cut to accommodate a much higher pitch. Regardless, at standard pitches, the scale is remarkably even and reliable in both the left and right hands. No awkward adjustments are required. So, If you are new to vintage French flutes, this would be an ideal flute to start with because of its user-friendly scale and modern pitch.
The case -redlining and the Louis Lot logo – is original and in good condition.
