Powell 1645 comes from an era of Powell flutes that shaped the musical landscape of nearly every flute section in orchestras throughout the United States. While this flute features thin-wall tubing, it projects incredibly well. There’s no need to use a ton of air as you would need with a heavy-wall flute. With a focused airstream, you have at your disposal an array of overtones that carry the sound through the concert hall. The middle and upper registers shimmer with color; the low register has lots of flexibility to easily blend with an oboe or a clarinet.

The flute is fluid when jumping registers, maintaining tonal consistency and smoothness.  The response is also quick, giving your articulation clarity and lightness.

The flute is also tuned to A=442 Hz with the head placed at 1/4 inch but plays well at 440 Hz by pulling out a bit more.

The flute was overhauled but has sat in its case virtually unplayed for a decade before we received it on consignment. The pads are in excellent condition, and the flute performs well in its current condition. The original embouchure plate was replaced with a slightly older Powell embouchure that the owner preferred.
